Some assisting on the side

I took some time of off work yesterday to assist a friend. She works in the same studio as me and asked me to assist her with an engagement shoot. The couple got married at a courthouse downtown and we then had to take them to a park for a shoot. I met with Teanna in City Hall and she was already shooting the couple when I arrived. I introduced myself to the couple and began assisting her.

I have shot dozens of casual shoots and I must say that I like the way that Teanna worked. She was took a lot of time to focus on the details and worked very well with the couple. She was good at taking traditional pictures and also was good at incorporating props. She was a graduate of Brooks Institute in California, and definitely has a good understanding of her craft. She shot with a Canon digital camera and took some pictures with her Polaroid camera as well.

After the shoot we talked about the shots and the family we worked with. She then expressed to me that this was the first time she had done a casual shoot by herself. “I usually shoot kids and work as a second photographer at weddings” was what she told me. She admitted to being a little nervous, but I reassured her that her photographs were very good. They indeed were. She was calm, had a good idea of what she wanted, and executed very well. She came in to work today and gave me this card. I hope to work with her again. It was a lot of fun to have a change of pace from my normal shoots, and I’ll try to incorporate what I’ve learned into my work as well.
